Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What happens if sea or weather conditions are not suitable?

Safety is our top priority. If conditions at sea (currents, waves, or wind) are unsafe, we reserve the right to modify the itinerary, change dive sites, or cancel the activity. In the event of a weather-related cancellation, we offer either rescheduling or a refund in accordance with our policies.

What equipment should I bring and what is provided?

We provide all scuba equipment (wetsuit, mask, tank, weights, etc.), as well as the boat, instructors/guides, and safety support on board. If you bring your own full set of equipment, you’ll receive a $15 USD discount. We recommend bringing a swimsuit, eco-friendly (reef-safe) sunscreen, a towel, and comfortable clothing.

How does booking work and what is your cancellation policy?

To confirm your booking, we require a 50% deposit of the total amount. Cancellations made 15 days or more in advance: 100% refund. Cancellations made between 3 and 14 days in advance: 50% refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the dive: non-refundable. As each trip requires detailed planning and logistics, we appreciate your understanding of these policies.

What requirements do I need to meet to dive or take a course?

Be at least 10 years old for beginner courses such as Open Water or Discovery Dive. Be in good health and complete a medical questionnaire before diving.

How deep are the dives and how long do they last?

Dive depths usually range between 15 and 20 meters (50–65 ft), with bottom times of up to one hour, adjusted according to each diver’s level of experience.

What diving courses do you offer and what levels are available?

We offer PADI-certified courses for all levels, from beginners to professional training. Some of our courses include Open Water Diver, Advanced Diver, and Freediver.

Can I dive if I’ve never done it before?

Absolutely! We offer introductory experiences, known as Discovery Dives. These are designed for people with no prior experience, where you’ll be guided and accompanied by a professional instructor at all times.

Can I fly before or after diving?

For your safety, it is strongly recommended to wait 18 after diving before taking a flight. This allows your body enough time to eliminate excess nitrogen and reduces the risk of decompression sickness. Flying before diving is not a problem, as long as you feel well-rested and hydrated.

Where is Exploramar Diving located?

Our main office and dive center are located in Puerto López, on the coast of Machalilla National Park in the province of Manabí. We also offer the option of completing the pool session of the Open Water course in Quito.

When is the best time to see giant manta rays?

The ideal season to see manta rays at Isla de la Plata is between July and September, when you can even combine diving with whale watching from the boat. However, diving at Isla de la Plata is great year-round, with abundant marine life and exciting encounters in every season.
